TEAMWORK OF AMERICAN EAGLE SENTRY SECURITY OFFICERS ATTRIBUTED TO SAVING A CLIENT’S LIFE
PALM COAST, FL – October 28, 2011 American Eagle Sentry Security Officers Scott Pollack and Peter Hanley helped save a seriously ill elderly client from certain death.
A concerned relative contacted American Eagle Sentry’s NE Florida dispatch center to report that she was unable to reach her mother, although her mother, a recent widow, was almost certainly home. AES’ Dispatcher Pollack immediately dispatched the community’s vehicle patrol on a “check on the well-being” call. Officer Pollack remained on the phone with the caller to relay information and to keep her calm. Upon arrival, Officer Peter Hanley noted that all cars were present and the home was secured.
After trying to make contact with the owner Officer Hanley checked the home’s perimeter. Everything looked normal and secure. However, knowing there could be a problem on the second floor that he could not see, Officer Hanley requested Flagler County Sheriff and Fire/Rescue to respond. Minutes later, after a subsequent forced entry into the home, officers found the elderly resident had suffered a serious medical event and was lying on the floor. “There is no doubt that teamwork saved a life today,” said AES’ Executive Vice President Rick Staly. “Our officers our trained in emergency first aid and it paid-off today,” Staly said. All AES vehicles are equipped with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and first aid kits to handle emergencies that may arise in a client’s community. The victim’s daughter called AES the next day stating that “without the assistance of these officers the [illness] suffered by my mother would have taken her life.” Both officers have been awarded the company’s Life Saving Medal award.

AMERICAN EAGLE SENTRY SECURITY PUT OUT HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS
PALM COAST, FL – On October 19, 2011 American Eagle Sentry put out Halloween Safety Tips for Children and Adults.
Kids love Halloween! They get to dress up and get free candy! What a perfect holiday! Did you know that on average, twice as many children are killed in pedestrian vehicle accidents on Halloween than other days of the year?
American Eagle Sentry wants you and your children to have a safe Halloween filled with happy memories.
Kids already know things they can do to be safe, like how to cross the street, not to talk to or go with strangers and things like that. But we adults know how exciting Halloween can be and that can make them forget to be careful.
Here are some tips that we have just for kids to help keep them safe. Some of these are “common sense” and things that kids should know and use every day.
HALLOWEEN SAFETY FOR KIDS
Always make sure that your mom or dad is within sight when you go out trick-or-treating.
Never, ever go into a stranger's house or even ring their door for treats unless your parents are with you and say that it's okay.
Try to take direct routes with the fewest street crossings. When possible walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic and stay as far to the left as possible.
Be careful when you cross a street. Make sure to look in both directions to make sure that there are no cars coming. If you have a little brother or sister with you, take their hand and help them get across the street, too. If the street has a stop light, wait until the cross walk light tells you that it's okay to cross now, but still check before you cross, look both ways.
Be alert for cars that are turning or backing up. Never dart out into the street or cross the street between parked cars.
If you are an older kid or young teen, and going out with friends, make sure that your parents know where you are going and who you are going with. This may seem like a pain but they are your parents and they love you. They just want you to be safe.
If you can drive and are taking a bunch of friends to a party, make sure that you have enough gas to get there. You don't want to run out of gas on a dark street, all alone.
If your parents give you a curfew, be home when they say. It builds trust between you and them and they are doing it for your own safety. If you are going to be late, call them and let them know.
Vandalism is never cool! Throwing eggs at cars and houses is not cool. Someone has to clean it up and it could be you, if you get caught. You can also be arrested and punished as a juvenile. So, don't think that it's fun only if you can get away with it. It's never the right thing to do! Think about how you would feel if someone did that to your house and how bad it would make you feel.
Hurting animals is never acceptable behavior! Some people use Halloween as an excuse to hurt cats and dogs and that is just wrong! Not only is it illegal to hurt or torture animals and punishable by law, you should never hurt a helpless living thing.
Have fun on Halloween but keep it safe, have some good, clean fun and your parents will trust you for many Halloweens to come! Showing them how responsible you can be will give you a feeling of pride and make them see just how adult you really are.
HALLOWEEN SAFETY FOR ADULTS
If you take your kids to a sponsored event, like a safe Halloween thrown by your church or community center, make sure to keep an eye on them at all times. Even though it seems less dangerous, you are still in a strange environment full of people that you may not know. All it takes is a minute with your back turned to find your child gone.
Cell phones are everywhere now! Everyone seems to have one, they can be so affordable. Make sure that your child has a pre-programmed cell phone with him/her if they go out on Halloween night! Make sure that all important numbers are already there and ready for use.
Below are more common sense tips that can help adults keep their kids and grandkids safe.
As bad as it sounds, this is just a fact of life now. Get on the internet and check your local state website for sex offenders. Just do a search for your state sex offender site. Look up your zip code and it should have a list of registered offenders in your area that includes street addresses. Make sure that your kids stay away from these houses!
Know the route your kids will be taking if you aren't going with them. Let them know that they are to check in with you every hour, by phone or by stopping back at home. Make sure that they know not to deviate from the planned route so that you always know where they will be.
Trick or treating isn't what it used to be. In most cities it's not safe to let kids walk the streets by themselves. For children under the age of 12 make sure an adult is going with them. If you can't take them yourself, see if another parent or two can.
Help your young child pick out or make a costume that will be safe. Make sure that its fire proof or treated with fire retardant. Instead of a mask, use non-toxic make-up and face paint when possible. If they are wearing a mask of any kind, make sure that the eye holes are large enough for good peripheral vision. Choose light colors and decorate costumes with reflective tape or stickers. Have children carry glow sticks or a flashlight to help them see better and to be seen by drivers. Remember that glow sticks are hazardous, so be sure to remind your children not to chew on or break them.
Know what other activities a child may be attending, such as parties, school or mall functions. If they are going to be at a friend's home, get the phone number and make sure that you've met the parents.
Make sure you set a time that your kids should be home by. Make sure they know how important it is for them to be home on time or to call immediately if something happens and they are going to be delayed.
Kids will be kids. Explain to kids of all ages the difference between tricks and vandalism. Throwing eggs at a house may seem funny but they need to know the other side of the coin as well, that clean up and damages can ruin Halloween for everyone. If they are caught vandalizing, make them clean up the mess they've made.
Explain to your kids that animal cruelty of any kind is not acceptable. Kids may already know this one on their own but stress the point that it's not acceptable behavior. Make sure that they know that harming animals is not only morally wrong but punishable by law and will not be tolerated.
Serve your kids a filling meal before trick or treating and they won't be as tempted to eat any candy before they bring it home for you to check. Check your local grocery store or craft store for Halloween cook books full of tasty treats and a horror theme for both kids and adults.
Make sure that if your child is carrying a prop, such as a scythe, butcher knife or a pitchfork, that the tips are smooth and flexible enough to not cause injury if fallen on. Make sure that costumes won't get in the way when they are walking, which could cause them to trip.
Teach your kids about not getting into strangers cars or talking to strangers, no matter what the person says to them. Explain to them that they should never go into a house that they don't know, get into a car or go anywhere with a stranger. Also, tell them what to do should this happen, to scream as loud as they can to draw attention and to run away as fast as they can to someplace safe.
Be sure to show your children how to cross a street properly. They should always look both ways before crossing the street and should only cross at corners or crosswalks. Make sure that if you have more than one child, they know to take the hand of the younger child when they cross a street.
Check all candy before allowing children to eat it. Make sure the candy is in original, unopened wrappers. Throw away all candy that the wrapper is faded or torn, or if it is unwrapped.
DO YOUR PART AS A DRIVER
Slow down and be alert in residential neighborhoods. Remember that children get excited on Halloween and may dart out in front of you.
Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully making sure you look all around you.
Concentrate on the road and your surroundings at all times. Do not allow yourself to get distracted.
Make Halloween a fun, safe and happy time for your kids and they'll carry on the tradition that you taught them to their own families some day!
AMERICAN EAGLE SENTRY SECURITY OFFICER RESCUES MAN SWEPT OVERBOARD IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
PALM COAST, FL – September 6, 2011 American Eagle Sentry Security Officer Bob Liggett discovered a boat captain that had been swept overboard hours earlier in a rough Atlantic Ocean when he came ashore hours later at a client’s community.
Officer Liggett was on patrol just after midnight in a marked American Eagle Sentry patrol vehicle at a client community in Flagler County when he observed an individual walking between two buildings adjacent to the beach. Officer Liggett approached him to conduct an investigative stop. The man identified himself as Brian Jeffrey Oliver the missing captain of the sail boat Cedar Rooster. Captain Oliver had been swept overboard nine hours earlier by a rogue wave. The United States Coast Guard and local authorities had searched the Atlantic Ocean for him until dusk the previous day and had rescued the sailboat passengers but had been unable to locate Captain Oliver. Apparently Captain Oliver swam over two miles in rough waters using a cooler as a flotation device until he reached shore. Officer Liggett provided water and a towel to Captain Oliver and placed him in his patrol car while notifying local authorities. “Officer Liggett did an outstanding job tonight,” said American Eagle Sentry’s Executive Vice President Rick Staly. “First he was observant doing his job on patrol and upon realizing this man’s situation notifying our dispatch center and local authorities.” American Eagle Sentry security officers are trained in first-aid and as first responders and all AES vehicles are equipped for any emergency. “I was glad I could assist,” said Officer Liggett.

AMERICAN EAGLE SENTRY SUPPORTS CRIME STOPPERS FOR SECOND YEAR
PALM COAST, FL – May 18, 2011 American Eagle Sentry donated Smith & Wesson .40 caliber semi-automatic pistols equipped with laser sights for the second year in a row to Crime Stoppers “Top Cops” awards at the Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida Annual 13th Law Enforcement Appreciation Banquet held during National Police Memorial Week.
One of AES’s client security initiatives is to create partnerships and work closely with local law enforcement agencies and community groups such as Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida. Crime Stoppers is a civilian organization that helps law enforcement solve crimes and bring criminals to justice by fielding tips from callers and rewarding them with cash for coming forward with vital information. Tips received by the Northeast Florida Crime Stoppers group led to 165 arrests in 2009 and in 173 arrests in 2010 and over $460,000.00 dollars of drugs seized. Crime Stoppers is supported by contributions from private citizens, social and civic groups and local businesses and a State trust fund. "With the economy down crime tends to go up, and tips increase," said Rick Staly, president of the local Crime Stoppers, former Orange County Undersheriff, and Executive Vice President of AES. In addition to paying out rewards, Crime Stoppers needs money for operating expenses. To replenish its funds, the local Crime Stoppers held its largest fundraising event, a community banquet, on May 18th in which local "top cops" were recognized for their part in keeping citizens safe. The highlight of the event was the announcement of four Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year awards from the four district counties - Volusia, Flagler, Putnam and St. John's. To honor the Top Officers of the Year, American Eagle Sentry presented a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol with laser sight to each winner. "This is an opportunity for AES to say thank you to the law enforcement officers who work in partnership with us day in and day out as we serve and assist our clients" said Staly.

This partnership allows American Eagle Sentry to expand our already outstanding training program,” said Executive Vice President Rick Staly of American Eagle Sentry. Employees of AES already received more than 60-hours of training that includes first-aid, CPR, AED, site specific training and security basics. This additional training will allow our officers to become a Certified Protection Officer (CPO) or certified in Security Supervision and Management (SSMP). After completing the required courses, which often takes four to six months to complete, employees must take and pass a certification examination. After successfully passing the class AES employees are eligible for a promotion and will receive an educational incentive bonus. Employees must also maintain their certification by completing continuing education requirements every 18 months. This partnership will insure AES officers have the training needed to provide security services for our clients.

HOLIDAY SHOPPING SAFETY TIPS from AMERICAN EAGLE SENTRY
PALM COAST, FL – On November 22, 2010 American Eagle Sentry put out Holiday Shopping Safety Tips.
Many of us pack our holiday schedules with festive traditions. Unfortunately, criminals have their own holiday traditions, and because of that, more of us will become victims of personal crime during November and December than any other months of the year. Crime prevention and avoiding being a victim starts with you.
Below are some valuable tips from AES to help you stay safe during the holiday season. These are tips of awareness, what to do if attacked, safe travel, safe shopping and home safety.
Be Aware
- Realize that it CAN happen to you.
- Be aware of who and what is around you when driving, shopping, or walking anywhere. Call 911 if you feel threatened in any way.
If Attacked
- Stay as calm as possible so you can evaluate your options. Continue to assess the situation as it unfolds.
- Try different strategies such as negotiating, stalling for time, distracting the assailant and fleeing, shouting or screaming, and physical resistance, if you think that will help. You may be able to turn the attacker off with bizarre behavior, throwing up, or claiming to have a disease.
- Call the police and someone to be with you immediately.
- Preserve physical evidence that may help catch your attacker. DO NOT shower, bathe, or destroy any clothing you were wearing.
Travel Safely
- Keep your car properly maintained and have at least a half tank of gas in the car at all times.
- Keep valuables out of sight.
- Drive with all doors locked and windows rolled up.
- If your car breaks down, put the hood up, lock the doors, turn on the flashers, and move to the passenger seat. STAY IN YOUR CAR and use your cell phone to call for help or the police.
Shop Safely
- Shop with a friend.
- Shop mid-day and avoid large crowds.
- Leave extra credit cards, cash, PIN numbers, and checks at home.
- Park close to the store entrance and under a light.
- Carry valuables in a front pocket or zippered purse. Keep them in your sight.
- Be cautious about strangers eager to carry your bags or load them in your car.
- Beware of chatty strangers who create a diversion so a partner can pick your pocket.
- Look in the elevator before getting in. If you don’t feel safe, don’t get in. Once in, stand near the controls.
- Have your keys out when returning to your vehicle.
- Never send cash or visible gifts through the mail
Home Safety
- Install solid locks on all entry doors and sliding glass doors.
- Trim shrubbery and trees near the house.
- Keep porches, entrances, and yards well lit.
- Do not hide house keys in easy to find places or put personal identification on key rings.
- Don’t open the door to strangers.
AES wishes you and your family a safe and happy holiday season!
